IFA seeks meeting with Shatter over attacks on rural dwellers
In the wake of recent attacks on rural dwellers in their homes, the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) has sought a meeting with Minister for Justice Alan Shatter.
IFA president John Bryan said “the recent attacks in Donegal, Galway and other parts of the country are further proof of the growing incidence of aggressive burglaries in rural areas”.
“Minister Shatter and An Garda Síochána have to react proactively to the concerns of rural Ireland, and the IFA is prepared to play its part with its members in working to ensure that an effective rural crime prevention strategy that includes all stakeholders is implemented.”
Rural groups have expressed concerns over plans to close 100 stations under Garda restructuring this year.
