New programme, launched as part of Healthy Towns, explains how to use equipment for maximum benefit

As part of the ‘Healthy Town initiative Laois County Council and Laois Sports Partnership has officially launched the Green Gym programme & user guide at Portlaoise Leisure Centre outdoor gym.

A green gym is an outdoor community gym that offers an innovative, cost-free alternative to traditional gyms. The equipment provided in an outdoor gym resembles that that of indoor gyms with a range of a cardio & resistance apparatus which work to improve co-ordination, heart rate & posture of users.’

The concept behind Green gyms is that they are for everyone from teenagers to older Adults and everyone in between!

Laois County Council in partnership with five local communities has made significant investment in the development & management of outdoor gyms developed throughout the county in the past three years.
