Hugging has been shown to reduce stress

Oxytocin is sometimes called the “cuddle hormone”. It spikes when we snuggle and plays a significant role in pair bonding.

Studies have linked interpersonal touch with reduced physical and mental stress. Hugging has been shown to reduce the stress hormone cortisol, boost oxytocin and lower blood pressure.

If you can't find a person to cuddle, a pet will do, and colleges have caught on to this during exam time. Trinity College Students' Union set up a puppy room earlier this year to help students de-stress before exams.
