Choose your drinking vessel wisely

If you are watching your alcohol intake, it seems that choosing a glass carefully could help.

One study, found that participants drank chilled lager more slowly from filled, straight glasses compared to drinking from curved glasses. "Participants were 60 per cent slower to consume an alcoholic beverage from a straight glass compared to a curved glass," write the authors in PLOS One.

And for wine, the glass can also have an effect. The size, shape and position of the wine glass can affect how much a person pours into it, according to new research published in the journal Substance Use and Misuse.

"If you want to pour and drink less wine, stick to the red wine glasses and only pour if your glass is on the table or counter and not in your hand – in either case you'll pour about 9-12 per cent less," said Cornell University Brian Wansink in a statement.
