A former Fianna Fáil councillor has appeared in Mullingar District Court charged with theft and fraud offences

A former Fianna Fáil councillor has appeared in Mullingar District Court charged with theft and fraud offences. Gerard Killally (41), Edenderry, Co Offaly, was charged yesterday with offences relating to a former shop premises he owned in Rochfortbridge, Co Westmeath.

Six counts of theft between October 2010 and February 2011 relate to theft of various shop equipment from The Corner Shop, the property of Christopher Lehane, the High Court’s official assignee in bankruptcies. Mr Killally was also charged with forging a document and with using a forged document.

Det Garda Peter Kelly, who charged Mr Killally, said he had replied “no comment” when charged. The DPP has directed trial on indictment and the case was adjourned to June 21st for a book of evidence, on condition he not leave the State without the approval of Det Garda Kelly.
