File for DPP over Donegal attack
A man arrested in connection with a garda investigation into an attack on a 96-year-old woman in Donegal last weekend has been released without charge.
Gardaí released the 48-year-old last night and a file is now being prepared for the director of public prosecutions.
The robbery occurred at a house in Ardarvan, Buncrana in the early hours of Saturday morning. A man entered the property and threatened and assaulted the woman before leaving with an amount of cash, understood to be a four figure sum.
The woman, who lives alone, managed to draw attention to the incident by pressing a panic alarm. She was found a short time later and taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not said to be serious.
A man was detained in Burt, Co Donegal, on Tuesday. He was taken for questioning at Buncrana Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act. The woman had been saving to put new windows in her home before being burgled and several thousand euro was stolen.
A fund has been set up in the local credit union to support her.
