Fatal fire thought to have been accidental
Gardaí investigating a house fire in which a man died on Saturday night believe it was accidental.
The man (88), who lived on his own, was found dead after neighbours noticed the fire at the house near Ballymacarbry in Co Waterford some time after 10pm on Saturday. He was named locally as Paddy Tobin. It is understood he was alone in the farmhouse, in the townland of Glendalough, Ballymacarbry.
Emergency services were at the scene of the fire soon after the alarm was raised but took some time to get the blaze under control.
The man’s body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a postmortem.
Gardaí preserved the area around the farmhouse while a technical examination was carried out. However, the cause of the fire is not thought to have been suspicious.
