Met Éireann has issued a weather warning with thundery downpours and gale force southerly winds forecast today.

It said the level of rainfall could lead to spot flooding in Connacht, Munster and Leinster but adding that there would be sunny intervals between the showers. Temperatures will range from 12 to 15 degrees. The warning is in place from 9am to 11pm.

Wind speeds could reach up to 100km/h along the west coast.

The wind and rain will ease overnight leading to a mainly dry and sunny day tomorrow afternoon.

However, a second band of wet and windy weather will cross the country from the Atlantic tomorrow evening.
