Food closure orders issued for eight Dublin eateries

The kitchen of the Dark Horse Inn on Georges Quay in Dublin 2 was one of 16 eateries served with enforcement orders by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) last month.

There were four restaurants on Parnell Street in central Dublin issued with orders including, Spicy Bite, Netedo's, Oriental Pantry Food Express and Lasani restaurant .

Other Dublin establishments issued with closure orders included New Sweet N Spice on Dorset Street, Thaicoon Thai and Asian Cuisine in Drumcondra and Stela Food Stores in Mulhuddart.

In total, fifteen closure orders and one prohibition order were served on food businesses last month for breaches of food safety legislation. The orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive.

"While most food businesses follow high standards and are compliant with food safety legislation, we continue to encounter cases where consumers' health is jeopardised through a failure to comply with food safety and hygiene requirements," said Prof Alan Reilly, chief executive of FSAI.

“These breaches are completely avoidable when food businesses have proper food safety management systems in place,” he said.

A closure order is served where it is deemed that there is or there is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health at or in the premises, or where an improvement order is not complied with. Closure orders and prohibition orders are served where there is a non-compliance with food legislation.

The closure order served on the Dark Horse Inn’s kitchen on October 30th was lifted on November 5th. Nine of the 16 food businesses had their orders lifted in a week or less after being served.
