Dublin loses out for European Green Capital award
Capital does not make Commission shortlist of four
Dublin has failed to be shortlisted as European Green Capital 2015
Dublin has lost out to Bristol, Brussels, Glasgow and Ljubljana in the competition to become European Green Capital 2015 — an award that recognises a city’s environmental performance.
The title will go to “a city in the vanguard of environmentally friendly urban living” on the basis of its climate change and energy performance, sustainable local transport, air quality and noise levels, green urban areas and sustainable land use.
Dublin was one of eight entries for the 2015 title, but did not make the shortlist of four announced today by the European Commission, following an assessment of the entries by an independent panel of 12 experts. The winner will be announced on June 14th.
To date, five cities have been awarded the title of European Green Capital: Stockholm 2010, Hamburg 2011, Vitoria-Gasteiz 2012, Nantes 2013, and Copenhagen 2014.
