THE SIXTH Dromineer Literary Festival will be held from October 1st to 4th at Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer, Co Tipperary.

Confirmed participants include poet Vona Groarke, novelist Peter Cunningham, pilot and biographer David Courtney, and playwright, novelist and Irish Timescolumnist Michael Harding.

Festival committee member Hjordis Goodbody, meanwhile, has devised Darwin/Hooker: the Dromineer Connection, a novel approach to the story of Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection. She tells the story through selected personal letters between Darwin and his closest friend and confidant, the botanist Sir Joseph Hooker.

It was Hooker who, together with geologist Sir Charles Lyell, presented the first abstract of Darwin's seminal work to the Linnean Society in June 1858, one year before the publication of On The Origin of Species.
