Teenager killed in quad bike crash in Co Limerick

Young man from Pallisgreen was pronounced dead at the scene near Oola

A 17-year-old youth was killed in a quad bike collision in Co Limerick today.

The young man from Pallasgreen in Co Limerick was travelling on the bike and collided with a tractor involved in hedge cutting along a narrow country road at lunchtime.

The crash occurred at approximately 1.45pm on the R507 Oola to Doon Road (about three miles from Oola) in Co Limerick.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick.

The tractor driver was not injured.

It is understood the teenager lost control of his quad bike on a bend and ended up on the opposite side of the road in between the tractor and the ditch.

A group of the victim’s friends who were travelling in a jeep nearby and witnessed the tragic accident.

Gardí and units of Limerick Fire and Rescue Service from Cappamore were called to the scene.

The road remained closed for a technical examination and diversions were in place for a period.
