Six people stabbed on loyalist estate in Co Antrim

Six people have been stabbed on a housing estate in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim.

At least two - a man and a woman - are thought to be seriously injured, a spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said.

They were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in west Belfast after the attacks on the loyalist Ballyduff Brae Estate.

Ambulance Service spokesman John McPoland said: “Six casualties have been taken to the RVH.

“It happened at a couple of different houses in close proximity.”

He added: “Two of them we would be concerned about, we asked for medical teams to be put on stand-by at the hospital.”

A PSNI spokesman said the incident happened at Ballyduff Gardens and was reported at around 4pm.

“A male and female have been taken to hospital suffering from stab wounds and a number of other people are being treated by NIAS for cuts,” he added. “Their conditions are unknown at this stage.

“An investigation into the circumstances is under way but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this stage.”
