Gardaí in Cork have requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office following the discovery of the body of a man in suspicious circumstances in Co Cork.

The body was found in a house in the Knockgorm area of Cloyne sometime before noon today. Gardaí immediately cordoned off the scene.

It’s understood the man - who is believed to be in his 70s - had sustained certain injuries.

The body will remain at the scene pending a visit by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

Gardaí said the direction of their investigation will be determined by Dr Bolster’s findings at postmortem, expected to take place later today at Cork University Hospital.
