Object found near Antrim rail line declared a hoax

Train services resume and residents return to homes after alert

A security alert in Northern Ireland has ended after a suspicious object discovered near a Co Antrim railway bridge was declared a hoax, the PSNI has said.

A Northern Ireland bomb disposal unit carried out a controlled explosion on the object which caused trains services to be halted and nearby homes to be evacuated.

Train services resumed and residents returned to their homes at about 3pm. The alarm was raised earlier in the afternoon when the object was discovered by police in the Glenville Road area of Whiteabbey. Translink said trains were now operating as timetabled.
