Gardaí arrested a man in his mid-30s at the scene, thought to be a bed and breakfast, at a property on Kennelsfort Road in the west Dublin suburb at approximately 3.45am.

Two men, both in their mid-20s, were thought to have suffered stab wounds during the attack.

They were later taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where one of the men died some time afterwards.

The man arrested at the scene is currently being held at Ballyfermot Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

It is believed that between 10 and 15 people were in the vicinity at the time and may have witnessed the outbreak of violence. A number of these may be sought for interview although anybody who witnessed the incident would be requested to make themselves known.

Gardaí have cordoned off the property where the attack occurred and local traffic diversions remain in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was on Kennelsfort Road between 3.30am and 4.00am to contact them at Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200.
