An elderly man and his daughter have been beaten with a hammer during a robbery in Dublin.

A man and a woman entered the 80-year-old’s home in Artane at about 12.30pm yesterday.

They demanded cash and assaulted him with the weapon.

The victim’s daughter then arrived at the house and was also assaulted.

The victims were taken to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance where they were treated for their injuries.

Gardai investigating the incident arrested a 31-year-old man during a follow-up search. He was taken to Coolock Garda station and questioned under section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He appeared before Dublin District Court today and was remanded in custody to appear before before Cloverhill District Court next week.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses.
