Man in 20s arrested after Co Westmeath hit-and-run

Man (38) struck by car near Finea was seriously injured and is in Beaumont Hospital

Gardaí investigating a hit-and-run incident in Co Westmeath earlier this week have arrested a man and seized a vehicle.

The collision happened at Magheraboy Upper near Finea village at about 3pm on Tuesday.

A man (38) who was walking on the road was seriously injured when a car coming from the Ballyjamesduff direction struck him. He is being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Wednesday night and is being detained at Cavan Garda station.

A car has been seized and is to undergo a technical examination, a Garda spokesman said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Cavan Garda station on 049-4368800.
