Police investigating two separate traffic collisions in Belfast

One man has died and a police officer was injured in two separate incidents involving motorbikes in Belfast.

A 20-year-old man died after a motorbike and a car collided on the Monagh Road in the Turf Lodge area of west Belfast yesterday evening, police said.

In a separate incident, a female police officer was injured when the motorbike she was riding hit a car at about 9am this morning at the junction of the Malone Road and Windsor Park in the south of the city.

Inspector John Murphy, from Lisburn Road station said: “An ambulance attended the scene and the female motorcyclist, a police officer, has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening at this time.”

The woman who was driving the car was not injured but said to be in shock.

The crash caused the Belfast half marathon to be delayed for a short time.
