Three arrested after stabbings at Galway courthouse

Two hospitalised following incident in busy foyer linked to family feud in city

Two brothers are in hospital following a double stabbing in the foyer of Galway Courthouse on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the foyer of the courthouse shortly before 11am. Four different courts were in session at the time.

Gardaí believe the incident may be connected to an ongoing feud between two families in the city.

A man in his twenties sustained a serious stab wound in the back, while his teenage brother was stabbed in his lower left arm. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Gardaí attending the court sittings helped to bring the incident under control.

Three other men, a father and his two sons, were arrested in the courthouse within minutes of the attacks. They are being held at Mill Street Garda station.

The injured men were taken by ambulance to Galway University Hospital for treatment.

A knife, thought to have been used in the attacks, was later found outside the courthouse.
