Irish man admits killing his wife in Switzerland, say police

Body of Galina Shevchenko (46) was found in couple’s apartment in Lutry

An Irish man has admitted murdering his wife at their home in the Swiss village of Lutry, police have said.

Harry Ringwood (48), originally from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, allegedly stabbed his wife about 50 times following a dispute and then attempted to take his own life.

He was interviewed by detectives and the magistrate investigating the murder of Galina Shevchenko (46).

The Kazakh woman’s body was found in a first floor apartment of Grand Rue 2 in Lutry, Lausanne, on Monday afternoon. A maintenance worker made the discovery and contacted the authorities. In a statement, detectives said there was “blood all over the apartment”.

Mr Ringwood was hospitalised after he was found unconscious close to his wife’s body. He was interviewed after receiving medical aid in hospital.

According to Swiss police, the prosecutor has requested Mr Ringwood be remanded in custody. The police said investigations into the exact circumstances of the killing are ongoing.

According to his profile on LinkedIn, a networking website, Mr Ringwood works in the pharmaceutical industry as a director of communications.

The profile says he is a communications and IT management executive with more than 20 years international experience. He has used his “strong inter-personal and consensus building skills” to provide “successful leadership of complex strategies”.

The Department of Foreign Affairs earlier this week said it was aware of the murder case but consular assistance had not been requested.
