Gardaí to prepare file for DPP on money laundering

Two men and two women quizzed by detectives over Cork drug-dealing gang

Gardaí investigating the activities of a drug-dealing gang in Cork are to prepare a file for the DPP after releasing without charge two men and two women arrested for questioning.

Detectives arrested two men, aged 19 and 29, and two women, aged 28 and 50, at addresses in Fairhill and Knocknaheeny, Cork, in raids around 8am yesterday.

One of the men and one of the women were brought to Gurranebraher Garda Station where they were detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The second man was brought to Mayfield Garda Station and the second woman was taken to the Bridewell Garda Station. They were questioned about money laundering.

The Cork City Divisional Drugs and Fraud units and members of the Criminal Assets Bureau were involved in the investigation.

All four were released without charge around 10pm last night and gardaí will now prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the drug dealing activities of an organised crime gang based on the north side of Cork city. Yesterday’s arrests follow on from the arrest and questioning of three women, aged 21, 33 and 50, and a 33- year-old man in Cork on September 3rd.

In February, investigating gardaí arrested another woman and recovered €36,000 which they believe to be the proceeds of crime when they raided a house on Kerryhall Road in Fairhill.BARRY ROCHE
