Former Anglo chairman Sean FitzPatrick to go on trial

Charges include failing to tell auditors true value of loans worth at least €139m

Former Anglo Irish Bank chairman Sean FitzPatrick is to go on trial on April 13th charged with failing to disclose loans from another bank.

Mr FitzPatrick (66) of Whitshed Road, Greystones, Co Wicklow, faces charges under Section 197 of the Companies Act 1990.

He faces 12 counts of failing to disclose to auditors Ernst & Young the true value of loans worth at least €139 million given to him, or people connected to him, by Irish Nationwide Building Society from 2002 to 2007 while he was an officer of Anglo Irish Bank.

In Dublin Circuit Criminal Court Judge Mary Ellen Ring heard preparations are still ongoing. She put the case in for April 13th in the hope any outstanding issues can be dealt with over the Easter break which starts on Monday and lasts for two weeks.

The judge told counsel the court will be available to hear any issues that arise during the break and she remanded Mr FitzPatrick on continuing bail.

Mr FitzPatrick was in court for the short hearing. The trial is expected to last about eight weeks.
