An elderly couple have been traumatised after being robbed in their east Belfast home.

Details of the incident were only released on Friday afternoon.

The robbers made off with an undisclosed sum of cash.

It is the latest in a spate of attacks on the elderly across Northern Ireland.

On Sunday, an elderly woman was tied up and had rings pulled from her fingers by a masked gang at her home on Grand Parade, also in east Belfast.

Last month a couple in their 80s were targeted by four robbers in Bangor, Co Down.

PSNI Det Insp Michelle Griffin has appealed for anyone with information to contact officers on the non-emergency 101 number.
