Two dead after motorcyclists collide in north Clare

Italians and German involved in crash

Two people died late yesterday and a third person was injured in a collision involving two motorcycles in Co Clare.

The incident happened at around 6.45pm about a kilometre from the north Clare town of Lisdoonvarna on the N67 Ennistymon road.

A group of three motorcycles, with two persons on each and all believed to be from Italy, were travelling in one direction. A lone motorcyclist, thought to be a German national, was driving the opposite way.

While gardaí are investigating the cause of the incident, it’s believed one of the motorcycles from the group of three collided with the bike travelling in the opposite direction.

The lone motorcyclist is understood to have died in the collision. The second motorcyclist was also pronounced dead at the scene however.

The pillion passenger was airlifted to Galway University Hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.
