Man accused of attacking judge in court to be released on bail

A man accused of attacking a judge following a court hearing in Dublin earlier this month is to be released on bail.

Dublin District Court heard yesterday that bail conditions had been set but had yet to be taken up by the accused (31), who had been remanded in custody at an earlier stage. Judge Michael Walsh further remanded him in custody with consent to bail to appear again next Tuesday.

It was the man's third appearance since being charged. Defence solicitor Peter Connolly said his client would be taking up bail.

The conditions imposed on his client state that when he is released, he must stay away from the Dolphin House district court building in Dublin city centre where he allegedly assaulted and caused harm to Judge Miriam Walsh on December 11th.

Once he takes up bail, he also has to reside at an address furnished to the court and notify gardaí of any change of residence.

Judge Miriam Walsh had been presiding over a case involving two parents and their adult son in which a protection order was sought. She was punched and kicked and brought to hospital, however her injuries were not serious and she was later released. Gardaí arrested the man and he was later charged with assault causing harm to Judge Walsh.
