Driver caught speeding four times in less than three weeks

Damien O’Meara, of Rock Road, Killarney, summonsed for offences on same stretch of road

A Kerry driver was caught speeding four times in a month on the same stretch of road between Killarney and Dingle, where drivers are like "fish in a barrel" for speed cameras, Killarney District Court has been told.

Damien O’Meara, of Rock Road, Killarney, was summonsed on April 1st for reaching 89km an hour in a 60km zone; for 74km an hour on April 13th; 70km an hour on April 16th and 71km an hour on April 19th.

Mr O’Meara said his car was in the garage and, while he was responsible for the first two offences, the mechanic may have been driving his car on the other days. He had moved to Dingle and had not received the notices.

His solicitor, Padraig O’Connell, said four offences would put his client off the road as he already had three penalty points. Judge James O’Connor convicted him on one, fining him €125. He adjourned the rest until November 2016.

“All these offences are on the same stretch of road. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel,” Mr O’Connell said earlier when the court heard a case dealing with the same road at Faha East.

The road accounted for at least 30 of the 38 speeding summonses before the court in Killarney on Tuesday concerning the period between March 25th and June 6th.
