Officers from Revenue's customs service have seized a consignment of over 20,000 counterfeit stuffed Frozen toys, estimated to be worth up to €600,000.

The seizure was made at Dublin Port during a routine check.

The toys were discovered in a container which originated in China. They are believed to have been destined for the Christmas market.

The toys were based on characters from the hit Disney film.

Last month, gardaí were called after a row outside a shop in Swords, Co Dublin, where people had waited overnight to buy this season’s hot toy, Frozen’s Snow Glow Elsa doll.

Revenue warned members of the public that the purchase of counterfeit goods is damaging to legitimate businesses.

It also said the lack of regulation of the production of these toys can pose serious health and safety risks to consumers and, in this case, to the children who may have received them as presents.
