Clare County Council said yesterday it had no further plans to build Traveller accommodation after confirming 14 per cent of group scheme accommodation had been destroyed in the past number of years by arson.

The comments come following an arson attack that resulted in €200,000 worth of damage to the Ashline group housing scheme on Ennis’s Kilrush Road at the weekend.

Five houses at Ashline have now been the target of arson attacks and the development is vacant and closed.

The council said it was reviewing its options in relation to the Ashline and Beechpark group schemes and had no plans to rebuild houses in either development.
