A two-year-old child struck by a car in Northern Ireland at the weekend has died.

A two-year-old child struck by a car in Northern Ireland at the weekend has died.

The boy was in a buggy being pushed by his mother when a parked car rolled into them in Comber Road in Dundonald, east Belfast, on Saturday afternoon.

The child was taken to the nearby Ulster Hospital in Dundonald and later transferred to the intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfastm where he died of his injuries overnight.

The woman suffered injuries which police said were understood to be non-life-threatening.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene and later released on bail pending further police inquiries.

 The PSNI has appealed for witnesses who may be able to give accounts of what happened.
