Gardaí in Galway are seeking the public's assistance in relation to the recovery of a body of a man from the River Corrib in Co Galway last Saturday morning.

The man is described as 1.88m (6'2")  in height, of medium build with a weathered complexion, which may indicate he spent a lot of time outdoors.

The man has grey receding hair with a red-brown tinge going through it, and grey stubble with a hint of red.

When recovered from the water the man was wearing a black Penney’s t-shirt with a picture of an eagle on the front, black combat trousers, a white Nike hoodie and black Oakley trainers with white soles.

He had brown rosary beads around his neck with the word “Medjugore” on the cross.

He had no scars, tattoos or piercings.

Gardaí have asked anyone with information on the man’s identity to contact them at Galway Garda station on 091-538000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.

The death is being treated as a tragic accident and gardaí are investigating “for the purpose of coroner inquest,” a Garda spokesman said.
