Sat, May 12, 2012THE TITLE of a painting to be auctioned in Dublin this month has been changed after closer analysis revealed a flock of geese to be, in fact, ducks. Driving out the Flock is among the highlights at de Veres Irish and International Art auction on May 22nd with an estimate of €15,000-20,000. But a Polish artist who has settled in Ireland is establishing a reputation for her paintings of hurlers and rugby players. The book was inscribed by Wilde to Robert (Robbie) Ross and was one of 12 copies published in a special edition, printed on Japanese vellum paper, by Leonard Smithers and Company in London in 1899.

Sale, “800 Years – Irish Political, Literary and Military History”. 70 per cent of lots sold. An original copy of the 1916 Proclamation owned by a Co Longford family €100,000 (€60,000-€80,000). An archive of documents relating to the Wyse family of Waterford, dating back to the 14th century and estimated at €100,000-€150,000, was sold prior to the auction to the new Waterford Museum of Treasures for “an undisclosed sum”.
