Travel gear: making travel easier

Portable cooler/air con, analyse your golf (if you dare) and the latest cycling computer

IcyBreeze

IcyBreeze say this is the world’s first portable cooler and air conditioner, and with our climate, we’re unlikely to be able to argue, despite this summer’s warmth. Still, if global warming manifests itself in all round higher temperatures, we might need one. The IcyBreeze’s clever turn is that you just add water to the cooler compartment (no eco-nasty Freon) which circulates through a heat exchange: and you can enjoy a 40km breeze courtesy of the integrated fan and adjustable hose. In Fahrenheit, the 35 degrees cooler air sounds good, but it’s only about two degrees. Still your bevies will stay chilled for up to seven days. And you can wheel it with you.

Analyser Quite a few of these motion-sensor systems that talk to your smartphone and use it analyse the data are appearing. Many golf ones have sensors you attach to your clubs; Zepp is simpler, using just the glove. It tracks your swing in all dimensions and gives instant feedback on your phone or tablet. So you can relive that shank into the rough in full 3D. It lets you track your hand path and swing, gives head speed and other metrics like the club plane angle and so on.

Garmin Edge 1000 Cycling Computer

This is the very latest in Garmin’s Edge cycling range and of course, the smartest. The Edge 1000 has everything you might need from GPS tracking and navigation to social media sharing via Garmin Connect. It can sync with heart monitoring and cadence sensors and lets you see incoming calls and texts. An ambient light sensor isn’t just good for day and night, but tunnels too. And the screen works in landscape or portrait orientation as you want. Tough and waterproof.
