Respiratory disease refers to conditions that affect the organs and tissues that make gas exchange possible. These include the upper respiratory tract, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, pleura and pleural cavity. Illness can be caused by inhalation of toxic agents, smoking, infections and genetic factors.
