Street style: Hipster grannies
Two years ago, Dublin-based filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan snapped a photo of two women in matching coats and head scarves on a Dublin sidewalk. He posted the photo to Instagram with the hashtag #grannyfashion. It became the first in a photographic series that turned into a blog and then a book.
“I started seeing these amazing grannies everywhere and thought I should sort of document them,” says Finnegan, who is now one of 12 photographers contributing to a year-long project by Studio Aad called ‘Where we are’, a series of small books that each document a different aspect of modern Ireland.
Finnegan’s contribution, Granny Fashions, was released this month on www.whereweare.ie.
