86 Skoda Yeti: practical family motoring with competitive pricing

Soon to be replaced but still worthy of attention

The light is fading around the Yeti now as it enters its last year or so of life, and it is about to be overshadowed, literally and figuratively, by its much bigger brother, the seven-seat Kodiaq.

Still, while it may be aged, and will soon enough be replaced by a new model based on the mechanical makeup of the VW Tiguan, the Yeti is still worthy of your attention. It’s more compact than most SUVs on the outside, and the slab sides and upright driving position not only make it feel like a proper 4x4, they may it easier to thread through town. Space in the back is good, space in the boot is less so and its CO2 emissions are definitely from the old school.

The most sensible one is probably a 110hp 2.0 TDI Greenline, but we harbour an affection for the 2.0 TDI 4x4, which can get your far further off road than you might believe. Build quality has always been excellent and the fact that the rear seats can be individually folded and removed makes it far more versatile than most rivals.
