Mazda unveils its new MX-5

Fourth generation roadster brings Mazda’s SkyActiv format to the sports car segment

Mazda revealed its long-awaited new MX-5, successor to the best-selling two-seat sports car ever.

The fourth-generation model comes with Mazda’s SKYACTIV powertrains and technology, and will be the first time the firm has brought this format to a rear-wheel drive model. Weighing 100kg less than the outgoing model Mazda promises the new roadster will have the responsiveness and agility that has always made the MX-5 the essence of driving fun.

"Mazda's current winning streak is driven by our highly acclaimed new models, and the all-new MX-5 should only add fuel to the growth engine," says Mazda Motor Europe President and CEO Jeff Guyton. "Built for the love of driving, this car underscores what Mazda is all about. It will certainly give our brand an added boost."

Since its launch in 1989 over one million have been sold. The car is expected to go on sale next year.
