Curragh Grange House for sale for €2.25m

Tis the season for homes with horsey credentials and Curragh Grange House on the edge of the Curragh plains is no exception. The very fine Richard Orpen designed residence comes to the market today on 10 acres through Jordan Auctioneers for €2.25 million.

The handsome Queen Ann-style house is the former home of the late Irish Sweepstakes owner, Joe McGrath, and last time it came to the market in 2005 it was to be auctioned for more than €9 million (albeit on 64 acres). However the redbrick pebble-dash house was snapped up before the auction for an undisclosed sum.

In the intervening period the living accommodation has been extensively and tastefully redecorated, and includes four lavish reception rooms, seven bedrooms, and a nursery wing with five additional bedrooms . In its previous incarnation it was home to the Japanese school and this is referenced in the mature gardens which feature a sunken Japanese garden with summer house and walled gardens and lawns.

The private treaty sale also includes outbuildings and yards with 25 boxes and various stores, feed rooms and sheds. There is a pretty gate lodge located inside the main entrance which is in need of renovation. According to Paddy Jordan who is handling the sale, the property would be well suited for a range of uses including institutional, educational or corporate headquarters or as a family home.
