Rare books in war catalogue

Cork specialist responds to growing interest in Ireland’s role in conflict

The west Cork specialist in rare and antiquarian books and prints Schull Books of Ballydehob has published a catalogue with a large section devoted to Ireland and the Great War. The catalogue will interest specialist collectors and comes in response to increasing interest in Ireland’s involvement in the conflict.

The business, which places particular emphasis on military history, is run by Barbara and Jack O’Connell, and books can be ordered from their website (schullbooks.net).

The catalogue includes scarce or out-of-print books, including A Galloper at Ypres, and some subsequent adventures (published in London in 1920) by Patrick Butler, the son of Sir William and Lady Butler, of Bansha, Co Tipperary, who served with the First Battalion in the Royal Irish Regiment and was wounded at Ypres. It costs €115.

A colour print of the famous lost painting by Fortunino Matania, The Last General Absolution of the Munsters at Rue du Bois, is just €20.
