Bonhams, London. The first dedicated auction of Iraqi Modernism . Cubist Cockerel (1955) by Shakir Hassan Al-Said (1925-2004), sold for £194,500 against an estimate of GBP £25,000- £35,000; ‘Lamea’, a portrait of the celebrated Iraqi poet and academic, Lamea Abbas Amara £176,500 (£60,000- £100,000).

Tuesday (April 21st)

John Weldon Auctioneers, Cows Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 8. A pair of Irish silver salvers, Dublin 1775 by Matthew West, €600 (€600- €900); a collection of Masonic jewels and medals from various lodges, including the 'Offaly Preceptory', €320 (€300-€500).
