Auction results

Tuesday (August 30th) Adams Blackrock Auctioneers, 38 Main Street, Blackrock, Co Dublin. Among the furniture, Lot 294, an early 19th-century mahogany twin-pedestal dining table made €9,000 (€6,000-€8,000) but Lot 293, a set of 14 early 19th-century Hepplewhite-style mahogany dining chairs with the provenance described as "Clarke Family, Imperial Tobacco, Manchester", estimated at €7,000-€8,000, was unsold. Among the art, Lot 177, The Picnic by George Gillespie made €6,500 (€3,000-€5,000); and Lot 130, Two Cream Jugs by Liam Belton made €3,300 (€1,800-€2,000); but Cattle Grazing by Frank McKelvey (€3,000-€5,000) was unsold.

Tuesday (September 6th) Adam's, 26 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2. The Alton Collection at 12 noon. Art and antiques from the collection of the late Dr Byran Alton. Highlights include: Lot 11, a set of four Irish Georgian silver candlesticks, made in Dublin by Michael Cormick and William Townsend circa 1760, (€12,000-€14,000); Lot 13, a silver cigar box inscribed as a gift to Dr Alton from President and Mrs de Valera (€500-€800); Lot 169, a George III inlaid and painted sycamore bowfront side cabinet (€15,000-€20,000); Lot 180, an oil-on-ivory view of The Court of the Mughal Emperor Aldwar Shah II at Delhi c.1820 (€6,000-€8,000); Lot 193, View of Tintern Abbey, Co Wexford, by Dublin Liberties-born artist George Barret (1732-1784) (€8,000-€10,000); Lot 200, a Meissen porcelain figure of The Indiscreet Harlequin modelled by J J Kandler (€25,000-€35,000).
