A large, detached modern house in a gated development in Foxrock is the kind of property that became all the rage in the boom: Hazel House has Creme de Marfil marble tiles in the hall and kitchen, walnut floors, marble countertops, underfloor heating, bathrooms everywhere, central vacuuming

. . . in short, all the trappings of a luxurious modern home. And close to a decade after it was built, it’s in walk-in condition as it goes on the market again.

Located in Dublin’s Grove Wood, on Hainault Road, Foxrock, the 432sq m (4,650sq ft) three-storey, five-bedroom house, is for sale by private treaty through Sherry FitzGerald for €2,150,000. It’s a big price but close to half the €4 million price tag of houses in this small development when they went on sale in 2004.

Willow House nearby sold in November 2013 for €2,050,000.

Grove Wood is a development of around nine houses and some apartments built on the site of a large period home near the corner of Hainault Road and Westminster Road, a short walk from Foxrock village. (Gortanore, a house on three acres that hit the headlines in 2006 when it sold to a developer for €31 million, stands behind the scheme.)

A bright double-height lobby makes for a dramatic entrance. It leads into a downstairs made for parties or big family gatherings. There’s a large but still cosy drawingroom to the right of the marble-tiled front hall. Like the livingroom on the left – and the bedrooms on the floor above – it has a deep bay window.

The livingroom opens through double doors into a large familyroom; more double doors open into a huge, bright kitchen/diningroom.

The kitchen has walnut units, marble worktops, a separate large utility room . . . and there’s still plenty of space for a large dining table and a comfortable seating area. A wall of glass windows and double doors opens on to the back garden.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms off the first-floor landing – all but one is en suite, and the main bedroom has a large walk-in dressingroom.

There are two large under-eaves rooms with Velux windows, one en suite, on the top floor. There’s a large tiled family bathroom on the second floor as well as a mosaic-tiled guest bathroom on the ground floor.

The sheltered landscaped back garden has a large deck, patio areas and a lawn. There’s room for parking in the cobblelocked front garden. The house is on view this Saturday, June 14th, from noon-1pm.
