Around the Block: Is Ireland’s cheapest house in Donegal?

We know there is definitely value to be had in residential property around the country, but surely Number 5 Tank Road, in the pretty heritage town of
Ramelton in Co Donegal leads the field.

The terraced, three-bedroom, two bathroom house is scheduled for auction next month with an advised minimum
value (AMV) of just €8,000.

The house is one of seven in a small development on the outskirts of the town that was built in 2003 but has not been lived in for the past five years.

The two-storey house extends to 77.7sq m (836sq ft) and admittedly it’s no palace, with boarded-up windows and evidence of water damage inside. On the plus side, though, it has a fitted kitchen, fitted bathrooms and fitted wardrobes in one of its bedrooms.

Ramelton itself is a popular tourist spot for visitors to the northwest, which has to be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets.

It sits at the mouth of the River Lennon, a salmon river that feeds into Lough Swilly. Its main street runs along the river bank and is flanked by Georgian houses and cut-stone former linen warehouses.

A major plus in its favour is that it is just 11km from the beautiful white sandy beaches of nearby Rathmullan, one of the country’s best beach resorts.

Number 5 will be auctioned at 3pm on February 19th next at the offices of Sherry FitzGerald Rainey in Letterkenny.
