Going, going, gone crazy rock and pop memorabilia
At a Christie’s London auction of pop culture memorabilia last month a pair of rimless Emporio Armani sunglasses, which Bono wore while performing I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight for the 2009 Blackberry advertising campaign, sold for £ 1,375 (€1,670) . In the same sale, “a Jean Paul Gaultier couture corset in green silk with conical cups and beaded silk as worn on stage by Madonna during the Blond Ambition tour in 1990” made £32,450.
At Bonhams, the highlight of an “Entertainment Memorabilia” sale was George Harrison’s black leather jacket, worn on stage during numerous early 1960s Beatles appearances, which sold for £110,450. There really is no accounting for taste.
If you have an item of rock or pop memorabilia and would like to sell it, then contact Whyte’s in Dublin, which is holding a “Rock and Pop Memorabilia” auction in March. The auctioneers claim it will be “the first of its type in Ireland”.
