Batten down the hatches for winter

As the nights draw in, we want to feel warm and cosy and shut ourselves away

As the nights draw in, we want to feel warm and cosy and shut ourselves away. Louvered shutters look super swish, and while not as insulating as a pair of interlined curtains, they do protect against the cold. Brian S Nolan (01-2800564; briansnolan.ie), at 102 Upper Georges Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, is offering Bargain Hunter readers who present today's column a 30 per cent discount on shutters, including installation, for orders placed before October 5th.

The bay window pictured shows the shutters in bali wood, which costs €395 per sq m. The side sections pictured each measure about 90cm wide by 2m high; the middle section is 180cm wide by 2m high. A window of these dimensions would normally cost €2,844, including installation. Bargain Hunters can get it for the discounted price of €1,990.

The shutters come in several wood options. Choose from bass wood, larch wood and cedar wood. There is also an MDF version that costs from €365 per sq m. This offer is available in the greater Dublin area, Co Meath and Co Kildare.
