Head West for a great food weekend

Dungarvan takes on the mantle of food capital of Ireland this weekend, with the West Waterford Festival of Food taking over the town and its surroundings. The festival got underway yesterday and continues until Sunday, with the full programme of events online at westwaterfordfestivaloffood.com.

There are events, demonstrations, discussions and, of course, eating opportunites at every turn, and many events are free to attend. The farmers' market will run on both Saturday and Sunday this year, and a new feature is Seafood Saturday, which will see food stalls, entertainment and seafood demonstrations along the quays. Picnic in the Park, in Walton Park tomorrow from noon, is a family-oriented event, with entertainment and food stalls. Eunice Power is staging a Middle Eastern feast in Causeway Tennis & Bowls Club tomorrow night, and Sunday's big draw is a lunch cooked at Paul Flynn's Tannery restaurant by Northern Ireland chefs Ian Orr and Derek Creagh, who has recently been appointed head chef at Harry's Restaurant in Inishowen.
