Our wedding story: ‘There are no words to describe the feeling you get walking down the aisle’

Linda Cronin and David Harney, from Clonmel, met in 2006 the day after a mutual friend’s wedding and, after going their separate ways but remaining friends for five years, “I plucked up the courage to ask David out,” said Linda from their honeymoon in Mexico. “Thankfully he said: ‘Yes.’”

In September 2013, during a weekend break in Skibbereen – after managing to pry her away from an episode of Sex and the City – David proposed to Linda.

They were married by Tom Farrell in a spiritual ceremony at Faithlegg House Hotel in Co Waterford on Saturday, March 7th.

They agree the ceremony was their favourite part of the day. In a room lit by lanterns and candles, with 125 loved ones facing each other in two semicircles, a hand-tying ceremony was performed in which four friends and family members placed ribbons over the couple’s hands while the celebrant read out what they represented.

“These are the hands of your best friend, the hands that will hold your children, the hands that will care for you always, the hands that will still reach for yours when you are old and grey,” he said.

Linda’s “something old” was a butterfly brooch belonging to her mother that she and her sister Traci loved as children. The “borrowed” was a white gold bracelet Linda had given Traci for her 21st birthday. And the “something blue” (her favourite) was her married name and the date stitched in blue thread underneath her Mori Lee dress.

The two bridesmaids were Traci and friend Kelly – wearing dresses from asos.com – and Linda’s eight-year old niece Abi was the flower girl. David’s groomsmen were his friends John Morrissey and Brendan Cagney (whose wedding put the couple together in the first place).

The newlyweds reserve particular praise for their photographer Phil Voon.

“He made the entire day feel so relaxed and made it his business to ensure he knew the names of all our family members and the wedding party – it’s little touches like that that made him so perfect to photograph our day.”

And a final word from Linda: “There are no words to describe the feeling you get before you walk down the aisle to marry your best friend.”
