Feathers on the dove of democracy

Why would I like to be a TD or Senator - a schoolgirl's view

NIAMH KENNEDY

Freedom: a beautiful word , which sends visions of joy and wonder to every soul on this globe.

Freedom is the beautiful snow white feathers which cling tightly to the dove of democracy.

Then fly into the hands of seekers.

People whose vision of freedom in Parliament have caught these feathers and carried them on, as they drift in the breeze of society.

People like the patriotic Michael Collins, Éamon de Valera , Cathal Brugha who brought democracy to the emerald isle of Éirinn.

Who fought long to catch the freedom feathers.

Who suceeded in bringing together a nation despite turmoil which will always stand strong in love for the unity of its people.

This brings me to the point of why I would wish to be a TD or Senator.

I feel inspired, to catch a feather, to be a TD.

I would like to make my mark on the dusty scrolls of Irish history which have fostered so many heros such as Countess Markievicz and Sean Lemass.

I would love to stroll down the halls of nostalgia of "Tithe An Oireachtais".

I would also love to sit in the noble room where the first Dáil was held some 90 years ago.

To feel the atmosphere of love and courage that has captivated a nation.

Lá breithla shona duit Dáil Éirinn!!!
