Sun Kil Moon's Mark Kozelek has been attracting much negative attention of late following a verbal altercation between him and a female journalist some months back. Let's hope there's none of that nonsense from Kozelek at this show, but rather a rake of sombre, odd and beautiful songs from his most recent albums, Benji and Universal Themes. One more time: let's hope.

THEATRE

Second Coming
Hawk's Well Theatre, Sligo. Aug 6 8pm €20/€10 hawkswell.com

“Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;/Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.” Those words, from WB Yeats’s 1919 poem written in the aftershock of the second World War, are a chilling evocation of a world torn in two. They’re also bracing words to accompany a performance of aerial theatre, whose safety regulations should ensure that things stay very much intact and that the centre can hold as fast as humanly possible. Still, it’s an invigorating way to respond to the lyricism of the writer with a corresponding poetry in motion. Here, Mikel Murfi, a performer and director of physical precision, conspires with Donegal’s aerial dance theatre company to imagine Yeats’ own return, against music, dance, film and circus, held together in a performance turning and turning in the widening gyre.
