Snow closures: List of theatres, cinemas, museums and cancelled events

Your most creative activity over these few days may well be sculpting a snowperson. Dig out that gnarled carrot (if you haven’t eaten it with the last of the bread) and lumps of coal, as it’s unlikely you’ll be heading too far from home for entertainment.

If you have tickets, plans or aspirations to go to an event over the weekend, check with the venues, websites or social media before heading out. Most venues are updating their websites.

The weather emergency has been particularly devastating for one-off events such as New Music Dublin, Ennis Book Club Festival, the Dublin Film Festival and the Imagining: Home literary festival, and in many cases it is not possible to reschedule.

Many performances have been cancelled for Friday night, with some rescheduled for over the weekend, but some theatres are waiting to make a call on Saturday and Sunday shows.

New Music Dublin – update: All scheduled concerts and events on Saturday and Sunday have been cancelled, "with great regret" and with apologies, because of the effect of the weather on artist travel, logistics and rehearsals. The enormous undertaking involved over 540 people due to perform in 26 events on 10 stages over four days. Organisers hope to reschedule as many festival events as possible later in the year. They say the overwhelming goodwill has heartened them and they plan to return have a festival in 2019. Ennis Book Club Festival 2018 - update: glór and Ennis Book Club Festival have cancelled all events this weekend, in the interests of staff, contributor, volunteers and audience safety. Refunds will be issued by glór. They thank everyone for their understanding in this regard.

Hawk's Well Theatre, Sligo: Irish National Opera has cancelled Powder Her Face scheduled at Hawk's Well on Saturday March 3rd. Ticket holders can opt to transfer tickets to a performances in Dublin at the O'Reilly Theatre (March 6t, 7th), or Tralee's Siamsa Tire on March 9th; or they can use the ticket for Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann at Hawk's Well on October 6th, or get a refund from the theatre. Box Office will also contact ticket holders.

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre: Friday's performance of Cirque Berserk has been cancelled and phone lines are closed. As of Friday afternoon, shows scheduled for Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th are due to go ahead, but please check the theatre's site and social media channels for updates. bordgaisenergytheatre.ie

Audi Dublin International Film Festival: All of Friday's events and screenings have now been cancelled. The festival has rescheduled some of its cancelled events to Saturday and Sunday, and its website is updated with details. Ticket holders can attend the film at a later date or be refunded. Imagining: Home: The two-day literary festival celebrating the connections between Canada and Ireland, due to be held at UCD, has been cancelled.

Abbey Theatre: Performances of The Unmanageable Sisters on the Abbey stage and of Porcelain on the Peacock stage have been cancelled for Friday March 2nd and Saturday 3rd. Performances of both will resume on Monday 5 at 8pm. The box office will contact customers from Monday to rearrange bookings. abbeytheatre.ie

Gate Theatre: Friday and Saturday night performances of both Look Back In Anger and Late at the Gate with Emmet Kirwan have been cancelled. Late at the Gate's premiere will now be next Friday. gatetheatre.ie

Bewley's Cafe Theatre @ Powerscourt: likely to cancel its lunchtime show of Peep on Saturday.

Gaiety Theatre: Friday's performance of Druid's Sive has been cancelled and tickets can be exchanged for an extra performance on Sunday March 4th at 1pm (contact point of purchase), or can be refunded. National Concert Hall: all performances until Sunday have been cancelled. nch.ie

Odeon Cinemas are closed on Friday. Odeon is continuously reviewing conditions and will close cinemas as needed to ensure guest and staff safety. It is notifying guests on social media.

IMC cinemas advises people to check Facebook and Twitter for updates. On its website some cinemas are not allowing bookings for Saturday or Sunday.

The Irish Film Institute: Closed until Saturday, but please check the site for details after that. ifi.ie/

The Everyman in Cork: The performance of The Approach is cancelled on Friday. The theatre plans to have a performance on Saturday and Friday ticketholders can exchange tickets for that performance by emailing the theatre. Check the site for changes. everymancork.com

National Gallery is closed on Friday and Saturday. The gallery is updating its website. Those with tickets for Emil Nolde: Colour is Life exhibition can rebook a slot or get a full reimbursement when the gallery reopens. nationalgallery.ie

The National Museum in Dublin (Archaeology, Decorative Arts & History and Natural History) and Mayo (Country Life, Turlough Park) is closed on Friday. Its website indicates reduced opening hours and closure from Saturday but please check to confirm. museum.ie

Irish Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham is closed from Wednesday until further notice and will not open before Sunday March 4th at the earliest. The museum will continue to monitor weather warnings and visitors can check the website and social media for updates.imma.ie

Science Gallery: Closed until Monday. The launch of its exhibition, Fake, scheduled for Thursday, will take place at a later date. sciencegallery.com
